Youth Conference

USMETS Newsroom

USMETS organization is proud to present the 2015 USMETS STEM Exchange Youth Conference, featuring presentations and demos aiming at helping young students to cultivate an appreciation of STEM education.

The conference scheduled for Friday July 17 at the New Jersey Institute of Technology campus in Newark, NJ will address both the need of exposing young students to career in STEM and also the importance of broadening the participation of underrepresented groups in STEM related career. In order for the U.S. to remain globally competitive, one million more STEM baccalaureates are needed in the next ten years (President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, 2012)

Although jobs in science, technology, engineering, mathematics are on the rise, women, Latinos, and African- American show little interest in pursuing STEM careers. Fewer than 3 in 10 graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are women. And barely 1 in 10 actual engineers are women.

This conference seeks to:

  • Encourage young students' interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
  • Inspire young students to excel in STEM and to become science and technology leaders
  • Motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
  • Help young people discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology
